Volume one is "Second Impression December 1954", Volume two is "Second Impression 1955", and Volume Three is FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. 3 volumes comprising the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. In original unrestored dust jackets bearing the iconic motif of the Eye of Sauron.

All jackets unclipped with price of 21s net displayed. Original red cloth, secure crisp and clean folding map in the rear of each volume. Very Good++ in Very Good- dust jackets. All volumes in original publishers red cloth with gilt tooled title to spines.

Some bumping to spine ends and corners, no fraying of cloth, no water damage, no odor, no major marks or soiling to red cloth, very clean. Overall extremely clean interiors bright and clean, very small unobtrusive previous owners name in Fellowship FEP. Top-stain red to all books with fading. Some foxing to end papers, balance of the book interiors are clean without marks, no stains, no tears.

Bindings on all strong and tight, little to no leaning. Dust jackets chipped at head and foot of spine, edge-worn, lightly soiled or faded, in good condition, all in one piece still doing their job. The Return of the King with signature mark "4" and sagging type present on page 49, without book reviews on black flap.

The Lord of the Rings began as a sequel to Tolkien's 1937 children's fantasy novel The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, much of it during World War II in letters to his son, and finally, having polished it to his own satisfaction, published it as a trilogy from 1954 to 1955, a volume at a time, impatiently awaited by a growing audience.
