About The Moulders and Specialist Processors Group

The BPF Moulders and Specialist processors is made over 100 who are manufacturing products in the UK. This includes injection moulders, extruders, thermoformers, dip moulders and speciality foamers as well as other specialist processors.

Scope of the Group

The Group is open to all companies who are processing plastics in the UK including injection, blow moulding etc.  The group consists of both contract moulders and in-house moulding companies.  In order to be eligible to join the Group, companies must have been operational for a minimum of 2 years and companies must be moulding or processing polymer within the UK.

Origins of the Group

The origins date back to 3rd December 1929 with the foundation of the British Plastics Moulding Trade Association.  Initially made up of 20 founding companies, it was agreed in December 1933 to create The British Plastics Federation to enable one orgnisation to meet the needs of the UK plastics industry. 

Since this time the Moulders and Specialisty Processors Group has been the largest and one of the most active groups within the Federation. 

Group Specific Activities and Benefits of Membership

  • Benchmarking: The BPF Moulders and Benchamrking Survey was established in 2004 and is open exclusively to members of the group enabling firms to benchmark their own performance against others within the Industry
  • Health and Safety: timely updates on H&S, well-being and work-related stress and access to BPF’s Industrial Health and Safety Committee
  • Member case studies featured on the Group website – a ‘shop window’ for your innovative and creative work
  • Meet the Toolmakers – annual event held in conjunction with GTMA
  • Sales Lead Development: Our online leads capturing system was established in 2005 with the specific aim of harnessing leads effectively for members of the BPF Moulding and Specialist Processing Group.  The system is used to deliver over 1000 sales leads year direct to members via email.   Member firms have reported up to 3 new pieces of business being won in a year through this system
  • Members of the Moulders and Specialist Processors Group receive bi-weekly newsletters specifically tailored to the needs of the group  
  • Meet the Recyclers -  Exclusively open to members of the BPF.  The BPF's Meet The Recycler event allows plastic  processors from across the industry to arrange 1-2-1 meetings with the leading recyclers from across the UK.  Meetings take place both virtually and physically 
  • Sales and Marketing: To support companies in improving their sales and marketing process in the UK and Overseas by harnessing best-practice information and disseminating expert views
  • International Opportunities: BPF regularly arrange overseas tours of injection moulding facilities, trade shows
  • Exclusive Access to European Bodies: The BPF pay membership and regularly attend meetings of EuPC (European Plastic Converters), safeguarding UK interests, extending a lobbying presence in Europe and gathering vital information for our Members.  BPF is also a member of Euromap who provide members with access to details on the plastics markets throughout the world

  • Group dedicated webinars on subjects that matter most to you
  • Standards development – BPF are a nominating body for all BSI committees working on the development of plastics standards

The group has also made a substantial contribution towards the energy consumption data that has enabled the BPF to draft a climate change agreement which is going through the EU for ratification imminently. It also holds an annual Moulders group forum meeting which act as a platform for companies in the industry to meet and discuss pan-industry topics such as energy costs and environmental issues.
