Announcement of Major Support for UK Manufacturing

On the 17th November 2023 the Chancellor announcement £4.5 billion in support for advanced manufacturing. 

The funding represents a 'vote of confidence in our world-class advanced manufacturing sectors and extends our successful manufacturing programmes to 2030'.

The announcement features:

  • Auto2030 – over £2bn of capital and R&D funding earmarked to 2030, boosting the UK’s competitiveness and unlocking strategic investments in our automotive industry – supporting the manufacturing, supply chain and development of zero emission vehicles.
  • Aerospace – fulfilling the commitment of the ATI programme out to 2030, with £975m of R&D funding earmarked.
  • CAM2030 – extending the Connected and Automated Mobility Research and Development programme with up to £150 million of funding between 2025 and 2030, complementing the Automated Vehicles Bill announced at the King’s Speech.
  • Made Smarter – expanding the Made Smarter Adoption programme, offering the scheme to all English regions in 2025-26 before working with the Devolved Administrations to explore making the programme UK-wide from 2026-27.
  • Hydrogen Taskforce – our plans to launch a Hydrogen Taskforce to maximise hydrogen propulsion opportunities for manufacturing industries.
  • McLean Review – the Government response on pro-innovative regulation in manufacturing, accepting all 14 recommendations.
  • Clean Energy – commitment of £960 million for a Green Industries Growth Accelerator to support clean energy manufacturing.
  • Life Sciences – £520 million for life sciences manufacturing to build resilience for future health emergencies and capitalise on the UK’s world-leading research and development.

The Government will set out more in the publication of their Advanced Manufacturing Plan which is due next week
