Biomaster silver additive technology
LINPAC rPET trays and lidding films

Brief Description

LINPAC Packaging has worked in partnership with Addmaster to develop a cost-effective, innovative and technically advanced, range of trays and lidding film solutions with built-in antimicrobial technology which inhibit the growth of bacteria on the outer packaging of fresh meat.

Contamination from bacteria is an increasing concern for the entire supply chain and preventing cross-contamination during preparation, processing, packing and distribution is seen as a key strategy in reducing the risk to consumers.

Addmaster is the leading supplier of performance additives to industry. Its Biomaster antimicrobial technology is a silver-based additive that can be added into any plastic, paper, textile, paint or coating product.

The antimicrobial technology incorporated into LINPAC Packaging’s trays and films brings together innovation and technology to reduce the risk of contamination from pathogens such as E.Coli, salmonella, listeria and campylobacter. Bio-master-treated products have been proven to reduce the growth of Campylobacter on their surface by up to 99.99%.

LINPAC Packaging recognises that the correct handling and preparation of food prevents contamination from bacteria but the application of the antimicrobial technology is another safeguard to control and significantly reduce the risk.

The antimicrobial additives can be applied to LINPAC Packaging’s trays and films in a variety of ways depending on customer requirements and the food to be packed. And crucially, the active agents do not affect the food’s organoleptic properties, such as taste and smell.

In addition antimicrobial agents can be added into the film or tray polymer mix so that they are part of the packaging production process. This method can be carried out during the manufacture of rPET trays.

The silver ion technology used by Biomaster actively inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria on the products surface and will not leach out and lasts the active lifetime of the treated product.
