George Bentham, Corinthian Benefits

Mark Holmes, Envirocare

Mark has 25 years’ experience working in occupational hygiene, in the chemical & pharmaceutical industries, and latterly working for a consultancy.  Whilst in industry he compiled many risk assessments, including COSHH assessments.  He was the site contact for COSHH and trained many colleagues to write COSHH assessments. He has delivered lectures and training on COSHH, occupational hygiene and related subjects to various audiences, including the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) Regional Meetings and Annual Conference, IOSH Regional Meetings, and various Universities.  He is a Licentiate member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS).

Heather McQueen Pearson, Abbey Construction Consultants

Heather McQueen Pearson is the Health and Safety Director at ABBEY Safety Consultants, part of ABBEY Construction Consultants Ltd. ABBEY CCL is a multi-discipline construction consultancy working across the UK. ABBEY boats an enviable client list from large household names to small-medium enterprises.  Heather joined ABBEY at the start of 2019 following thirteen years working for a multinational defence and aerospace company where she gained valuable experience across multiple sectors.

As a chartered safety and health practitioner, Heather specialises in Health and Safety Consultancy, CDM and Design Risk Management as well as offering a comprehensive training provision. Heather has worked as a NEBOSH Examiner enabling her to develop engaging and focussed training courses.

Heather is an Executive Committee member for the Humber IOSH Branch and a Specialist Member of IIRSM. She is passionate about promoting the safety industry to young people with an emphasis on how STEM subjects are the core focus of the profession. 

Dr Mark Scanlon, Energy Institute

Dr Mark Scanlon is a Chartered Chemist and Member of the Energy Institute. He leads the health, safety and environmental good practice work programme at the Energy Institute. This work programme engages energy industry professionals to work collaboratively to enable the energy industry to better manage the HSE risks of its operations. The energy industry sectors in scope are conventional ones (such as petroleum refining, offshore production and thermal power generation) as well as renewables sectors.

Previously, he worked in a trade body representing the chemical manufacturing industry, an HSE consultancy and laboratory service that supported wider manufacturing industries, and in nuclear industry research.

Trevor Stapleton, Oil and Gas UK

Trevor Stapleton is a Civil Engineer and holds an MSc in Construction Engineering from Leeds University and an MBA from Aberdeen Business School; he is also a Chartered Safety Professional (MIOSH) and a Practitioner member of IEMA.  He has over 36 years of industry experience, spending most of that time with BP where he acquired a range of skills in the areas of HSE, supply chain, engineering, and operations management in their Downstream and Upstream businesses. He has held senior HSE and Offshore Installation Manager positions and is a graduate of BP’s MIT Operations Academy. In his current role as Health, Safety and Environment Director for OGUK, he is helping lead the industry response to the hydrocarbon reduction challenge set by the HSE and has been at the forefront of dealing with the Covid-19 crisis. Trevor is currently the co-chair of Step Change in Safety’s Safety Alerts & Moments Work Group and is a member of the IOSH Offshore committee.

Chris Steel, HSE

Before joining the HSE Chris worked as an acoustician, lectured at Napier University and tutored on the Institute of Acoustics Diploma and Workplace Noise courses.   He is currently the HSE’s Specialist Inspector for Noise & Vibration in Scotland investigating and advising on breaches of the workplace noise and vibration regulations, provides expert witness advice and promoting the control of noise and vibration.
