BPF Seminar On Bio Plastics Futures

A Seminar on 'The Future of Bio-based and Degradable Plastics : Markets and Applications' will be held at the BPF's London offices on Wednesday, June 2nd 2010.

The third in a highly valued series, the seminar takes place against a background of heightened interest in the materials but uncertainty as to their properties and potential.

Presentations will have a strong market focus with speakers from Solutions4Plastic and Valpak providing insights into the extent to which Bioplastics and Degradable Plastics are actually used.

The spotlight will fall on packaging, agricultural and medical markets with speakers from the Co-op, Smithers RAPRA and Wells Plastics providing the insights.

A close examination of the environmental benefits will also feature prominently with the sustainability of the feedstock supply being reviewed by the National Non- Food Crops Centre. Loughborough University's  controversial study on Oxo-Degradable Plastics will also be presented. The end of life fate of both bio-based and degradable plastics will be addressed by EPI Europe and Novamont.

The UK government will have a strong interest in the seminar and will give an update on the new Green Claims Code and its applicability to this sector.

Earlier seminars on this subject have been a tremendous draw and delegate lists read like a 'who's who' of the major players.

BPF Public and Industrial Affairs Director, Philip Law said ' The timing of this seminar is spot on.  There are major issues to discuss and policy needs to be decided with urgency.  If you want to access the key opinion-leaders in this sector they will be there.”
