BPF Seminar to Push UK Plastics Recycling Forwards

Leading experts in recycling will join forces on 18th October 2011 at the British Plastics Federation’s (BPF) Recycling seminar at the Stoke Moat House, Stoke-on-Trent to explore the pool of key issues and market factors shaping the recycling landscape.

Recycling and the associated issues have snowballed attracting unprecedented attention from Government straight through to the consumer. Pressing issues such as the availability of feedstock, consumer recycling and the future of bottle recycling will be explored by the BPF’s diverse selection of experts who will share current thinking and shed some light on these areas.

Nick Brown, Commercial Recycling Manager at Coca-Cola will take the lead on consumer recycling with a focus on the soft drink giant’s approach to encouraging recycling within its customer base.

The BPF has organised a panel discussion on ‘The Future of Recycling in the UK’ which will be led by Eco Plastics, Closed Loop, Lichfield District Council, WRAP and the BPF. The panel will lend their expertise on a range of developments, innovations and market opportunities tipped to propel recycling to the next level.

Roger Baynham, Chairman of the BPF’s Recycling Group which is co-organising the event with the BPF said, “We want to continue to build on the achievements in UK plastics recycling sector by ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of the huge challenges and consequent opportunities going forward.”

Philip Law, Director of Public and Industrial Affairs at the BPF echoed this saying, “The UK plastics recycling industry is a vibrant sector. Just over 24% of plastics packaging was recycled in the UK IN 2010. The UK is also a leader in PVC recycling with over 49,000 tonnes of PVC building products recycled in 2010. This is a firm base for future growth. Our seminar will identify the critical success factors for the future.”

Recoup will also be launching the results of its Household Survey 2011, detailing the fruits of plastics bottles collection from both bring and kerbside schemes with an insight into planned developments.

The new Vinyl Plus programme will be revealed as the successor to Vinyl 2010 with its broader focus on recycling in regulated as well as unregulated streams.
