BPF Takes Centre Stage at Interplas 2011

The British Centre of Excellence at Interplas was the launch pad for the BPF’s new look Buyers’ Guides and its highly anticipated Guide to Energy Management in Plastics Processing. The Centre boasted a display of the best of British plastics design and innovation which was home to the Horners Awards winner presentations.

A strong representation of the BPF’s member base were present at the exhibition ranging from recyclers, injection moulders to packaging manufacturers and additives suppliers - almost 9,000 spectators attended the event and 300 businesses exhibited. Members have since complimented the BPF on the wealth of resources and support available in enhancing business opportunities throughout the three-day event.

Speaking at the event, Paresh Shah of SIMBA Plastics, member of the BPF Recycling Group said, “It’s the very first time we’ve exhibited in the UK. The support we got from the BPF was excellent. As a BPF member we are credible, people see the BPF logo and take notice.”

Philip Law, Director of Public and Industrial Affairs said, “Hosting the British Centre of Excellence positioned us at the nucleus of the event, enabling a frontline experience and the chance to promote the interests of our member firms. We had an impressive number of enquiries over the three days, a majority of which I’m sure will develop into solid business leads for our member firms.”

Despite the current economic turbulence exhibiting member firms have reported ‘an air of enthusiasm’ amongst fellow exhibitors and the strong business opportunities the exhibition presented.

Bob Fuller of Instron, member of the BPF’s Plastics and Rubber Equipment Group said, “As a global supplier of material testing equipment, Interplas 2011 provided Instron with the ideal venue to showcase our new range of Rheology, Melt Flow, and Impact test systems. We were extremely pleased with the volume and quality of the enquiries at our stand, and would like to thank all our visitors and show organisers for helping us to stage such a successful event.”

An event highlight was the launch of the BPF’s free practical guide to energy management titled, ‘Energy Management in Plastic Processing: A Signposting Guide by the British Plastics Federation’ which offers a step-by-step guide for energy reduction and cost for businesses to meet efficiency targets associated with the Federation’s Climate Change Agreement.

The BPF’s suite of new look Buyers’ Guide covering sectors such as Recycling, Polymer Distributors and Compounders, Packaging and Rotational Moulding proved popular with enquirers to the Centre.

Several BPF members’ products were on display at The British Centre of Excellence such as the ‘tangle teaser’, a Dragons Den contender produced by BPF member Data Plastics. The winners of the Horners Award 2011 and the Horners Bottlemakers Award 2011 run in conjunction with the BPF were announced at the Centre as Andrew Lang Product Design Ltd for the Cycloc and RPC for their Retortable Barrier Jar respectively.
