BPF talks to Labour Politicians
Tuesday, 29 July 2014
At the Labour Party's Reception held on Tuesday night at Canary Wharf, BPF's Director-General Philip Law and Immediate Past President, Philip Watkins, were able to buttonhole senior members of the Shadow Government to raise industry issues.
First port of call was Iain Wright, Shadow Minister for Industry, to brief him on the latest business conditions in the industry. Well known to the BPF, Wright has visited the BPF's offices for a dedicated briefing on plastics and had also recently hosted a dinner for the BPF's Indian partners, The Plastindia Foundation.
In a crowded reception involving some 1300 invitees the press of people around Ed Miliband was particularly dense but nevertheless, Law and Watkins fought their way through and were able to have a brief conversation with the Labour Leader. Law thanked Ed Miliband for his help in securing the BPF's Climate Change Agreement when he was Secretary of State for Energy at DECC. He also urged the Labour Leader to focus on the issue of skills shortages, which is acutely felt in the plastics industry.
