BPF Team in European Parliament

BPF President, Philip Watkins, assisted by Director-General, Peter Davis, and Philip Law, Public and Industrial Affairs Director, met in Brussels on 21st February, Malcolm Harbour CBE MEP, Chairman of the European Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee.

The main purpose was to discuss the BPF’s initiative to clearly demonstrate that the Plastics Industry is a critical and strategic sector, bringing innovation to the UK manufacturing economy.

Mr Harbour, with a strong industrial background himself, understood our messages and had indeed visited plastics companies in his West Midlands region. He offered to introduce the BPF to key DG Enterprise officials working on sectoral strategies.

BPF President Philip Watkins said “We had a very positive discussion with Malcolm Harbour MEP and appreciate his offer of assistance in emphasising to the European Union Commission, the importance of the Plastics Industry in delivering growth, jobs and employment and sustainability not just in the UK but throughout the EU”.

Mr Harbour, who knows the BPF well, said that the image of Plastics is generally very good in the Commission and Parliament.

Also discussed was the forthcoming review of REACH.
