Wednesday, 12 October 2011
The BPF’s Windows Group has been representing the interests of all those involved in the plastics window industry since 1981. The system companies supported by key raw materials suppliers, additive suppliers, and fabricators continue now to play a major role in reassuring that plastic windows, have the credibility that they deserve.
The Group celebrated its 30th Anniversary at the Federation’s annual dinner on October 12th. The Group hosted a special reception for members and key stakeholders. Chairman Martin Althorpe of Spectus welcomed some 40 guests who included some of the Group’s originators, government contacts and journalists. He outlined the evolution of the Group from its inception as the industry’s authority and instigator of standards and codes of practice to enable PVC-U to become established in the marketplace as a credible product to its leadership role in promoting the environmental benefits of the windows. He paid tribute to Paul Jervis who has served the Group for over 20 years at the Group’s Technical Consultant.
Althorpe outlined major recent achievements of the Group as the securing of official BRE recognition of the 35 years lifespan and the A and A+ ratings for domestic and commercial windows respectively in the BRE’ s Green Guide to Specification. He said that the work of the BPF’s Windows Group had made the market possible in the first place and more recently had re-positioned PVC-U windows as sustainable construction products.
Much of the success of the group is owed to the dynamism of the executives and the collaborative effort of members, and now, after 30 years of constructive work, PVC-U windows have become the consumers preferred choice.
