BPF assists with RPA Study on Cadmium Levels in Recycled PVC
The BPF were recently invited to submit their views on a study carried out by Risk & Policy Analysts Ltd., RPA, on behalf of the European Commission (Directorate-General Enterprise and Industry) looking to assess the potential impacts from changes to the concentration limits for cadmium in new PVC products placed on the EU market. These changes could affect the use of PVC recyclate (especially recyclate produced from PVC profile waste as this tends to contain significant concentrations of cadmium as a result of historical use of cadmium stabilisers).
RPA were keen to gain BPF's view on the proposed options and how they may impact on the recycling of end-of-life PVC building products into new construction articles and thus affect manufacturers of new PVC products, in particular manufacturers of PVC profiles and pipes.
RPA was due to submit its report to the European Commission on 2nd October 2009.
