BPF’s Accidents Statistics Applaud SIMPL Members
Wednesday, 13 June 2012
The BPF has released the results of its 2011 Annual Accident Survey which was completed by 105 members of the British Plastics Federation. Now in its fifteenth year, the survey aims to source information and statistics that will assist the BPF in supporting the plastics industry, primarily within the field of health and safety.
Some highlights from the report show an improvement on major reportable accidents, indicating the most common accidents were caused by handling, lifting or carrying. Following closely in the rankings were accidents caused by hitting a stationary object, slips/trips/falls and cuts/knife injuries.
2011 was the first year of the SIMPL (Safety in Manufacturing PLastics) strategy, and the report shows better performance from SIMPL members compared to reportable accidents from the plastic industry as a whole. So far, more than 50 company members have demonstrated a commitment by signing the SIMPL pledge. These members have started to implement action plans, defining risk assessment criteria and delivery and monitory arrangements.
The BPF’s annual Health & Safety seminar takes place on 20th June at BPF House, London, and will feature representatives from the HSE explaining how changes in health and safety law will affect companies. Other experts will present real world examples, both good and bad, to provide attendees with a comprehensive insight into the latest health and safety thinking.
