Chinaplas 2016: BPF Show Report

At Chinaplas 2016 (25-28 April, Shanghai, China) the BPF once again organised the British Pavilion.  The Pavilion was supported by UK Trade & Investment with most companies claiming a £2,500 TAP Grant which was adminised by the BPF.

The companies in the Pavilion were …

  • Aerogen Company
  • AMI
  • Atlas Converting
  • Boston Matthews
  • British Plastics Federation
  • Ceramicx
  • J & A Young (Leicester) Ltd JAYPLAS
  • Meech
  • MSA Engineering Systems
  • Nextool
  • PREA
  • Zotefoams

The demand for exhibition space at the show is huge and it typically sells out around 6 months prior to the event taking place. Indeed this years show in Shanghai had a massive waiting list for companies trying to get into the sold out show.

Due to this level of demand, the British Pavilion continues to grow in size year on year, details of which can be seen below…

Exhibitor Feedback

The feedback from exhibitors was exceptionally positive with companies praising the quality of the visitors to their stands as well as the location of the British Pavilion which is in Hall W1, right by the main entrance to the show.

“The show is such an international show and is not limited to the Chinese market.  We have seen people from India, Chili, Indonesia, Thailand, Iran, Malaysia, South Africa, Venezuela and Japan amongst others.  Chinaplas is also a great opportunity to meet all the international machinery manufacture’s , all of which exhibit here.  We have done at least 8 or 9 Chinaplas shows and we have seen a distinct improvement in the quality of visitors, specifically in the last 2 years.  It really is a great show and offers an opportunity to both sustain existing relationships and form new ones”   Eddie Grant, Aerogen

“Chinaplas has been a great opportunity to boost magazine subscription numbers as well as to meet local contacts.  We are highly confident new business will come as a result.  Overall the show has given us a very useful insight into what is clearly a very important market” Matt Wherlock, AMI

"We have been doing Chinaplas since the early 2000s and this show was definitely busier for us than last year.  There are clear signs that the market here is picking up and the quality of contacts was very high.  We were also able to touch base with companies from Turkey, Saudia Arabia and Iran amongst others.  There is a very high chance that we will get an order from the show”  Morgan Jones,  MSA Engineering

“The market here is certainly maturing and whilst the number of contacts we have made is actually down, the quality is up.  Companies have got into the market using local constructed equipment and now they are appearing to show signs of moving to higher quality, more expensive equipment.  It is still the case that the gulf in cost between European machines and Chinese machines is still vast but of course the quality is not as good.”  Simon Brookes, Boston Matthews
