Deadline for Entries to the Horners’ Award for Plastics 2011 is fast approaching

Entries for the prestigious Horners' Award for Plastics Design and Innovation run in conjunction with the British Plastics Federation (BPF) must be received by the deadline of 29th July 2011.

The Horners' Award is a highly sought-after accolade and is believed to be the longest running Plastics Design Award in the world, being instituted in 1945. The Horners Company are one the City of London's most progressive Livery Companies and the Award is a cornerstone of the Horners support for Design and Education projects  in the UK plastics industry.

The Award encourages excellence in UK design and expertise and, as such, entries must have demonstrated that the product, machine or process entered has a significant UK content in design, materials and or manufacture. Previous winners include 2010 winner, the highly innovative and user friendly “Easy Clean” - Bedside Cabinet, developed by Kinneir Dufort.

Other noted products to have won the Award include the ‘Beehaus’ in 2008 and the ‘Durakerb’ lightweight kerbing system which has won a contract to supply the London 2012 Olympics.

Several entries have already been received but there is still time to enter this year’s event.  Entries must be received at the BPF offices no later than 5pm on 29th July 2011. The application form for the Horners’ Award is available to download from www.hornersaward.co.uk

The results of this year’s competition will be announced on the BPF stand at Interplas on 27th September.  “Interplas is a highly anticipated show for the UK Plastics industry and we are extremely excited about bringing the Horners’ Award to the event,” said David Williams, the Master of The Horners Company.

The winner of the Horners’ Award will be presented with their Trophy at the annual banquet of the Worshipful Company of Horners held at The Mansion House on 6th October 2011.

The runner up to the Horners’ Award will be presented with the BPF President’s Award at the Federation's Annual Dinner held on October 12th 2011 at the Lancaster London Hotel.

Notes to Editor

The Worshipful Company of Horners is both an ancient guild and livery company, and a modern City Institution. The first historic reference to the Company was recorded in 1284, although the craft of the horner dates from centuries earlier.

To date the Worshipful Company of Horners maintains both its ancient links to the City of London and to the Plastics Industry and seeks to support the horner's craft. Its Liverymen hail from many backgrounds, including the City, the Plastics Industry and the professions. It’s Charities and Awards support activities in education, design, the City and industry.

Established in 1933 the British Plastics Federation is the most powerful voice in the UK plastic industry with over 400 members across the plastics industry supply chain, including polymer producers and suppliers, additive manufacturers, recyclers, services providers, end users, plastics processors and machinery manufacturers.
