The Prime Ministers Skills Speech

The Prime Minister (PM), Boris Johnson delivered a skills speech on the 29th of September. During the speech, the PM announced that adults with qualifications below A-Levels will be able to complete free technical courses.  A life-long loan entitlement to four years od post-18 education. Finally, the PM announced a pledge to spend £1.5bn on improving colleges across the country.

The Polymer Apprentice of the Year                         Award 2020 is NOW OPEN!

The BPF is happy to announce that the Polymer Apprentice of the Year Awards (PAYA’s) is NOW OPEN. PAYA20 is now in its fifth year and has been successfully running for half a decade. The quality of entrants has been consistently high. The deadline for entries this year is Friday 6th November 2020

The Number of Apprenticeships is Down               Almost 50% Versus Last Year

The number of apprenticeships starts between the 23rd of March and the 31st of July in 2020 have shown a decrease of 46% versus the same period last year. Although it is unclear whether the level of reporting has been affected by lockdown, the data does not look promising. The Engineering and Manufacturing sectors were amongst those effected with a 44% decrease.

Covid-19 and the Remote Education Support

Due to the coronavirus and the requirements to isolate, the department for government announced that it will provide extra resources including 100,00 additional devices to support the delivery of remote education. The announcement was made on the 1st of October by the Education Secretary.
