Eight Associations Urge Chancellor to Cut Public Spending

The alliance of Eight Associations from the plastics, rubber coatings and associated machinery and tool making sectors have written to the Chancellor Alistair Darling to try and influence his next Budget.

In their letter (attached) the Eight Associations see some improvement in business but no substantial recovery.  They are concerned at how few companies are planning to make investments.

They call on the Chancellor to take action now to ‘make significant public sector spending cuts’ to tackle the deficit of £178bn predicted this year.  The Associations feel a delay in these cutbacks will harm the UK’s ability to attract investments and its standing in the financial and currency markets.

The Associations call on the Chancellor to cancel his tax on jobs, the rise in National Insurance contributions in April 2011, reform our complex corporate tax system, and avoid any taxation increases which harm businesses recovery prospects.

Peter Davis Director – General of the BPF said, “The Budget speech which will be delivered at the end of the month will probably be aimed at the electorate.  The real Budget will almost certainly be after the General Election, whoever wins.”
