British Plastics Federation supports the initiatives of its Members in their efforts to expand into new markets and grow their sales abroad. There are many experienced exporters within the BPF's membership but there is also a large number of companies who would like to get involved, but do not know where to start or which market to focus on.

1.15 Chairman’s Introduction, Colin Brooks, Boston Matthews

1.25 Session 1: Exporters Knowledge Exchange: A Roundtable Discussion

This session will be led by three leading exporters in the UK Plastics Industry who will be discussing strategies for export growth and will focus on how they have successfully built a global network of agents and distributors.

  • Chris Francis, Managing Director, Meech
    25 years ago exports were zero, today they account for over 80% of Meech’s turnover. Chris Francis will discuss how Meech have achieved this extrodinary growth and how they managed to successfully establish distributors in around 45 countries as well as sales offices in Western & Central Europe, a joint venture in India and a fully owned Chinese office. Chris will also discuss their recent experience of expansion and how they have looked at finding distributors in South America, Turkey, Russia and Scandinavia through OMIS Reports commissioned through UK Trade & Investment.

  • Colin Brookes, Boston Matthews
    Boston Matthews have been at the forefront of extrusion machinery for 50 years. They have manufacturing and customer support facilities based in Worcester, England and New Jersey, USA and support a global network of representation that spans more than 70 countries.Colin will share his experience on finding and securing agents and distributors in foreign markets.
  • Morgan Jones, MSA Engineering
    Morgan will be discussing how MSA Engineering have managed to secure agents and distributors around the globe. Giving a case study on hiring agents, Morgan will highlight some of the potential pitfalls and what you should look out for in order to get the right agent/distributor for your company.

3.00 Session 3: Speed Networking

An opportunity to exploit the natural synergies between BPF Members. Each company will get 3 minutes to talk directly with one another and discuss experience in global markets, markets where they see the most potential going forward and also to discuss the potential of swapping agents/distributors with non-competitive companies.

4.00 Networking Wine Tasting

An opportunity to develop future relationships and exchange knowledge with companies they people have met during the course of the day. The wine tasting will constitute of a blind tasting session with the wines being covered and the participants having to guess the grape variety and the price. Wine experts will be on hand to answer questions, with prizes available for the winners!
