First Litter Strategy for England

The BPF Plastics and Flexible Packaging Group welcomes government leadership in this area. The DEFRA Strategy recognises the importance of behaviour change, education and infrastructure and enforcement. It also proposes setting up a number of working groups, including one to examine options for new statutory instruments, including a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS). It was pleasing to see the government recognise the importance of behaviour change, infrastructure and enforcement under the umbrella of a high-profile campaign. It is encouraging to see an acknowledgement to the industry’s work through Hubbub’s #NeatStreets and the inclusion of Hubbub in the National Campaign Working Group aimed at delivering the intended world class national anti-littering campaign. We look forward to working with the Government and all relevant stakeholders in this area to further contribute to reducing litter in our environment. BPF members who would like to engage further on litter on a local or national level should contact Barry Turner, [email protected] |
