Government Announcement on Simpler Recycling

The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) have released amendments to the proposed Simpler Recycling legislation that are resulting from the feedback received in their recent public consultation.
The main changes are as follows:
- Councils will provide a MINIMUM of three bins (mixed recycling, residual waste, food waste/green waste).
- Residual waste will need to be collected at least fortnightly.
- Food/green waste will need to be collected weekly.
- The list of non-domestic premises that come in to scope has expanded to include places of worship, penal institutions, charity shops, residential hostels, and places of worship.
- Digital waste tracking will be used to collect data on what is collected through simpler recycling.
- £295m of capitol funding has been made available for food waste bins and vehicles to collect food waste.
