Wednesday, 11 May 2011
It’s all systems go for the hot topic of the moment at the BPF’s upcoming Biobased and Degradable Plastics 2011 seminar to be held on 8th June.
Through a variety of comprehensive presentations and case-studies, high level speakers will illuminate latest innovations in Bio-based and Degradable plastics and provide delegates with a wider understanding of the benefits accrued from the use of these materials. There will also be an exploration of the end of life of the materials with a close examination of the issues they can present when entering the waste stream.
Philip Law, Public & Industrial Affairs Director at the BPF said, “This seminar will bring to the forefront the key issues facing bio-based and degradable plastics and explore the full range of innovations. At the dawn of global demand for these materials and with a need for wider understanding of their applications, this seminar is vital for anyone looking to explore the current market and future possibilities.”
The seminar programme will focus on the following topics:
• Recent and Future Market Developments
• The Future of Bioplastics for Packaging to 2020
• Additive Masterbatches to Promote Degradability in Plastics
• Developments in Legislation, Standards and Certification
• Evolution of Bioplastics: From End-of-Life Disposal to Renewable Sourcing
• An Overview of Natural Fibres in Composite Applications
• The Realities of Bio-based and Degradable Plastics in the Waste Stream
The popularity of Bio-based and degradable plastics has grown in recent years attracting interest from the public, media and downstream users. They are increasingly being specified for industrial and consumer applications.
Due to their range of properties and perceived positive environmental impact, they are also increasingly being used in packaging, agriculture, medicine, automotive, and many other areas. Speakers will also present on the current market situation and potential for growth inspiring an appreciation of their true impact and potential use.
The seminar, led by the BPF’s Bio-Based & Degradable Plastics Group will be supported by leading experts in this emerging field such as the NNFCC, ARGO Group International, PIRA, Bangor University and CIWM.
