Hallam Plastics – a true partner in plastics innovation and engineering.

Hallam Plastics – a true partner in plastics innovation and engineering.

For almost 50 years Hallam Plastics has been working successfully in partnership with cross-sector manufacturers to help them achieve their aims of making plastic products lighter, stronger, and more competitive.  We have done this through our commitment to innovation in design, materials research and development, processes and investment in the latest technologies that keep us at the leading edge of thermoplastic solutions.

We were the first company to install an engineered structural foam machine and our continual innovation and improvements in this process has led it to become the design engineer’s preferred option where greater strength to weight ratio is needed, combined with outstanding design flexibility and reduced component costs.  Engineered structural foam (ESF) has a superior strength to weight ratio 7 times greater than steel and 13 times the rigidity of zinc, making it an outstanding high-performance solution where strength and weight are key product drivers.  It is also highly flexible as it allows for the introduction of complex curves, bosses and product specific features, such as thick wall sections and the creation of complex mouldings from two different polymers or multi-colour polymers; none of which are possible using a more traditional injection moulding process.  ESF is widely used in automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical and medical or wherever lighter, stronger, cheaper components are needed.

“The incredible strength and versatility of Hallam’s ESF moulding allowed us to create a lower cost product with superior design features” – Brandon Medical Limited.

Injection moulding – a long tradition.

We’ve also got a successful history dating back 30 years in traditional injection moulding, and there’s not much that we haven’t encountered or problems we have been unable to solve using this process.  We have continued to invest in machinery and skilled people which enables us to work with the full range of commodity and specialist polymers with manufacturers throughout the world in diverse industry sectors.  Technically, we are highly competent and provide a consultancy service that encompasses material, tooling, production and packing.  The Hallam plant and production scheduling is highly flexible which allows us to offer low and medium volume runs at highly competitive prices.

Hallam has injection moulding machines from 150 tonnes to 1000 tonnes clamping force.

ISO 9001 – a key driver throughout our business.

This internationally recognised standard accreditation is firmly embedded in all that we do, and we are committed to continually improve and streamline operations, reduce costs and build a resilient, sustainable business that benefits our customers throughout the world.

We have a strong environmental ethos, achieving ISO 14001 in 2001 and continually strive to recycle wherever possible and reduce waste.  In addition, we work closely with paint manufacturers to help them to develop the performance water-based coatings that are needed in our industry.

Unrivalled technical support.

We work closely with customers to ensure successful project completion, and our skilled team is frequently responsible for achieving reduced development and production time, because of their unrivalled technical ability and experience solving problems with customers in other sectors.

We offer many additional services, including an in-house paint facility which has perfected the process of painting onto plastic substrates over the past 40 years.   This enables us to produce consistent finishes across the whole spectrum of paint types and polymer substrates.

Hallam works with cross-sector companies to deliver stronger, lighter and more cost-effective plastic components – elements that are key within industries such as automotive and aerospace.

Hallam has developed from a plastics processing company to a more flexible and broad-based manufacturer.  We undertake complex assembly operations and produce finished assembled products boxed and retail-ready.  With some customers we undertake full responsibility for management of the upstream supply chain and supplying in kit or fully assembled form.
