Health and Safety Updates in the Plastics Sector – October 2013
The BPF will keep you informed of the latest news relevant for the plastics industry. This month: HSE inspections of plastics SMEs from October, changes in RIDDOR and new SIMPL strategy to be launched in April 2014.
SIMPL to launch second strategy in April 2014
BPF and the other SIMPL partners are now finalising the details for the new SIMPL strategy which will run from April 2014 to the end of 2017. SIMPL (Safety in Manufacturing Plastics) will set ambitious targets on accident reduction and will feature the launch of an audit tool that will help BPF members to monitor their H&S performance.

HSE inspection of plastics SMEs from October 2013
From 1 October 2013 HSE inspectors are carrying out visits to small and medium sized plastic manufacturing companies. The purpose of the visits is to check that the risk of exposure to plastic fume is being controlled. Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) changes from 1 October 2013
On 1 October 2013 changes were introduced to the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) that will simplify the mandatory reporting of workplace injuries for businesses, while ensuring that the data collected gives an accurate and useful picture of workplace incidents.
