HiPerDry Survey

Image

The BPF is involved in a number of European Projects, for the benefit of our membership base. One of these projects has recently started (Oct-2013) and will run for 3years.

The project itself is called 'HiPerDry' and has a full title of "A Novel Microwave-Enhanced Superheated Steam Process for High Performance Drying of Hygroscopic Polymers"

The research work, being undertaken by the Fraunhofer Institute (Germany), University of Stuttgart (Germany) and University of Wageningen (Netherlands), will benefit the our members, who will eventually own the IPR generated after the 3years of research. The results of the project are expected to be a 30-50% reduction in process energy costs and an ability to efficiently dry heat-sensitive hygroscopic polymers without the risk of material degradation.

As discussed at our Kick-off meeting in October, we would like to identify those materials requiring drying that are most relevant for the different plastic processing sectors. Also, the technical interfaces and conditions of use of current drying systems shall be analysed, so to guarantee the new drying system fits existing production line demands.

For this purpose we have designed an online inquiry, which we kindly ask 5 minutes of our members time. Of course all entries are anonymous and the amalgamated results will be provided in due course.

The deadline for responses is 8th December 2013
