Friday, 12 February 2010
The Horners` Award for Plastics Design and Innovation 2010, is now open for entries. The deadline for entries to reach the British Plastics Federation’s offices is 30th July 2010.
Last year’s Horners' Award for Plastics Design and Innovation was presented to Omlet Ltd for their innovative 'Beehaus' Plastic Beehive. The Beehaus was developed using modern plastics materials to provide bees with a safe, modern home in which to live and makes beekeeping straightforward and fun. Omlet is the first company in the history of the Award to have won twice, having received the Award in 2004 for their ‘Eglu’ plastics Chicken Coop.
The Award was created to stimulate innovation and improve the competitiveness of the UK plastics industry. Many iconic products have won the Award in its history, which now extends over 50 years.
Winning the Award results in major commercial benefits, the Award is traditionally presented at the Horners` Banquet held at the Mansion House in the City of London by the Lord Mayor of London and this attracts considerable media coverage. Furthermore, companies are able to use the fact that they are an Award Winner in their sales and marketing programmes.
The runner-up receives a Certificate of Special Commendation awarded by the British Plastics Federation and this is presented at the Federation’s Annual Dinner.
This esteemed Award, the oldest and most prestigious in the plastics industry, is open to innovative products or processes with a proven track record of commercial success. It is jointly organised by the Worshipful Company of Horners, a City Livery Company, and the British Plastics Federation.
