HSBC Group Chief Executive Addresses BPF Members

The Presidents Forum

On 15th September Michael Geoghegan CBE, HSBC Group Chief Executive addressed members of the BPF who attended the BPF’s prestigious President’s Forum, held at the Athenaeum Club, Pall Mall.

HSBC Group is the World’s largest banking group and employs 312,000 people in over 85 countries and at the event senior plastics industry delegates were given a unique insight into the future of banking and future trends in manufacturing by the Group’s Chief Executive.

Geoghegan spoke candidly about the banking crisis and the state of the World economy, and over lunch the floor was opened for BPF members to ask any questions they had on the manufacturing, banking and the wider economy.

The event was hosted and chaired by the BPF President Paul Jukes Arkema Ltd.

Commenting on the event Jukes says:

"We were delighted when we learnt that Michael had agreed to speak at our inaugural President's Forum luncheon, and he certainly did not disappoint us. We had already confirmed that all discussions would be under Chatham House rules, so he was able to speak very candidly about banking behaviour in the recent past, and what would have to change in the future. The Plastics' Industry has been rather critical of bankers in the last twelve months or so, so this was a golden opportunity to have a frank exchange with one of the top men in the world in this area. It is perhaps a pity that more members did not take advantage of the event, but those who did enjoyed a very informative speech and question and answer session in splendid surroundings. Whether we are able to capture such a high profile speaker again remains to be seen."
