Interim Report: Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety

Interim Report: Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety

The interim report for Dame Judith Hackitt's Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety has been published, including a summary document of key findings.

This interim report focuses on answering some of the key questions from the initial call for evidence launched last year. It notes that "current regulations and guidance are too
complex and unclear
" as well as the need for "the rules for ensuring high-rise and other complex buildings are built safe and remain safe should be more risk-based and proportionate".

Dame Judith Hackitt also provides her personal views as a foreword in the summary report, noting that "change control and quality assurance are poor throughout the process"  of "construction, refurbishment and management of occupied buildings".
