New Web Site reveals cost savings and insulation advantages of AIRPOP blown bead for new building properties

New case study shows 21% installation materials cost-saving to builders and video evidence demonstrates total cavity coverage to achieve 30% reduction in heating bills.

The NBBA - which represents the UK cavity wall insulation industry using ‘blown bead’ expanded polystyrene (now known as AIRPOP across Europe) – has re-launched its web site with new case study and video evidence of the clear advantages of the material - particularly in new build properties where blown bead allows:

•    Elimination of on-site storage and waste from built in batts
•    Quicker and easier construction of masonry walls by bricklayers with resulting cost-savings
•    Full filling of complicated details in walls without the need for intricate fitting of batts and a resultant reduce risk of cold bridging

The new case study featured on the web site, independently verifies a 21% reduction in installed cavity wall insulation material costs - and the latest video, shot under controlled test-rig conditions, show the unrivalled internal coverage of blown bead which is able to fill every internal void as well as coping with complex internal structures. For these reasons, the case study is able to show that the blown bead system achieves better thermal performance at lower cost than alternatives leading to a 30% reduction in heating costs – an ideal solution for new homes and commercial properties.

The new site can be found at http://www.nbba.org.uk  It represents a free information portal with single-point authoritative information for architects, builders and construction specifiers.

NBBA members represent around 75% of the UK market and are the UK’s principal manufacturers and installers of blown EPS cavity wall insulation. They have now committed to a charter of consistent standards in performance and service quality. “Our members have signed a commitment to unrivalled installation standards and customer service. This means, when properly installed by an NBBA member, EPS ‘airpop’ bead is a long-term, cost-effective and consistently performing cavity wall insulation ideally suited for new build and retro fit alike” said David Emes, Chairman of the NBBA group.

NBBA include major UK companies such as Domestic & General Insulation, Energystore, Moulded Foams, Warmfill Ltd and Kay-Metzeler together with raw material suppliers BASF, Sunpor, and Ineos-Styrenics.

NBBA says that blown bead insulation is installed quickly and easily by its members and the ‘airpop’ beads do not run the risk of settlement or moisture absorption – thus avoiding the risk of gaps at the top of the property and around complex internal structures which can occur with conventional fibre insulation. NBBA member-installed blown beads are also coated with an air-drying bonding agent during installation and will remain in place with consistent thermal protection for the life of the building. The new website also includes information on Lambda values as well as the sustainability credentials of EPS – which include a BRE Ecopoints rating of 0.043.

The site also emphasises that EPS is rot-proof and water resistant with the backing of a 25 year CIGA guarantee and BBA approval. Installation can be carried out in all weather conditions and there is no need for site storage as NBBA members can install and pull off site in the same day.
