Jack Straw Visits RPC Blackburn
| On Friday 9th January 2015, Jack Straw visited the Blackburn site as part of the BPF’s political contact program, where they are seeking to illustrate the great extent of our economy’s and indeed society’s reliance on the UK plastics industry. It is part of the £20 billion UK plastics industry, which in itself is a leading UK industry sector with world-beating potential. His visit involved a presentation form the site’s SMT on the RPC Group, the site and the UK plastic packaging market followed by a tour of the facility. Of particular significance for the site and the visit was the need to highlight the lack of key skilled staff and the desire of the site to improve this. Jack met previous year’s apprentices as well as those in the midst of their training. This photo shows Jack with Connell Doherty in his second year with the company. Jack is no stranger to the site, this is his third visit having opened the new warehouse facility in 2012. Jack, who met with office staff after his shop floor tour has agreed to raise the key issues of More Skilled Staff; Energy Security; Greater Understanding by Banks of Opportunities in the Plastics Industry and Continuing Support for the Construction Sector in parliament. |
