The BPF Recycling Group is an organisation that is set up to represent the interests of UK plastic recyclers and to promote best practice in the industry:
- It gathers members' views on issues, collates and expresses them to media, government or other relevant authorities as appropriate
- It endeavours to collate statistics on UK plastics recycling to provide a basis for lobbying issues
- It maintains a watching brief on developments in legislation that may affect plastics recyclers and ensures that members are kept informed of threats and opportunities
- It participates in BSI working groups which feed into the CEN working group
- Members are encouraged to participate directly in standards development work.
The Group maintains a close relationship with other recycling interest groups, including the BPF Packaging Group, Recoup, Zero Waste Scotland and WRAP. Representatives from these groups regularly attend Group meetings and provide briefings on related activities and developments.
Group meetings provide a forum for discussion of plastic recycling issues allowing members to meet other recyclers, raise matters of concern and learn about issues affecting others in the industry . Guest speakers are invited to some meetings to talk on relevant or interesting topics
BPFRG is a member of the Plastics Recyclers Europe (EuPR) which enables dialogue at European level and facilitates access to European Commission officials. The BPFRG has a seat on the EuPR management committee and participates in several of its special interest groups. There is regular communication with EuPR with them regularly attending group meetings. BPFRG members are permitted and encouraged to participate in EuPR interest groups.
