K2010 success for BPF Pavillion
Tuesday, 30 November 2010
The substantial BPF presence at the K Fair in Dusseldorf is paying dividends for the UK’s plastics industry with UK exhibitors reporting great successes at the show and the BPF also reporting on the equally successful launch of its seminal Sustainable Manufacturing book at the Fair.
UK firms exhibiting at K have showcased a diversity of expertise and latest innovations in manufacturing and design technology illuminating the UK plastics industry as a key player in the global plastics community. Over 135 UK companies have exhibited at the K show this year with 35 exhibiting at the British Pavilions, forming the ‘British Group'.
There has been a steady stream of visitors although the show was relatively quiet on day six, All Saints Day and a German Holiday, with 25,500 guests in comparison to 32,000 on day six last year. Despite a decline in numbers, the British Group have reported a wealth of successes and opportunities to expand business and develop key relationships.
“We launched a brand new machine at the exhibition, a saddle wire laying machine which provides wiring branch saddles for gas and water pressure distribution systems. The machine sold on the first day of the show and is worth 1.5 million pounds. From the enquiries that have come in, we will be busy for the next three years, “said Gary Jones, Chairman of MSA Engineering.
Another BPF member firm celebrating success at the K show is Gough Engineering who sold three of their machines directly off of the stand. A Masterbatch producer from Israel and a Plastics producer from Germany were both so impressed with Gough’s circular vibratory sieve that was illustrating taking longs out of pellet batches that they purchased the machine. Whilst a Granulator company from Australia purchased a Gough Linear Screen for high volume screening and conveying.
Gary Probert, Director of Hi-Tech Automation said, "It’s my second show and I think that having a practical demonstration on our stand has encouraged a lot more visitors to stop and talk to us and hence a lot more serious business leads. Because of this I am considering returning in three years time with our own manufacturing cell under the British Group coordinated by the BPF.”
Meanwhile other member companies have commented on the relationships developed with their international customer base and the potential to develop further business abroad through their presence at K.
“We sell a surface decoration technology into the moulding plastics markets specifically targeting consumer electronics, automotive and sports industries.
We have deployed over eighty systems in the last two years into Asia and the USA. Being a part of the British Group gives us an opportunity to connect with our supply chain, 70% of our business is export and as a result of the global demand for technology in we have set up in Taiwan,” said Peter Wood, Chief Executive Officer of IDT.
The BPF launched a book titled Sustainable Manufacturing: A Guide For The Plastics industry at the K Fair on Monday 1st November at the Dusseldorf Congress Centre. Through a variety of case studies and feature contributions by leading experts in sustainability, the book aims to equip companies with the information and support needed to implement systems to fulfill long term sustainability goals and objectives.
The book was launched at the BPF’s Sustainable Manufacturing seminar which featured a broad range of presentations from industry experts under the themes of Recycling, Energy Reduction and Biobased and Degradable plastics. The event was attended by over fifty delegates who represented the global plastics community as far as Latin America, the Middle East through to India.
Philip Law, Public and Industrial Affairs Director at the BPF said, “Our target is to provide a vehicle for the UK Plastics Industry to develop business in India, China, the Middle East and Central Europe. We are re-presenting the industry as a rich source of expertise in the sustainable manufacturing of plastics. Our seminal book is a great launch pad into these markets.”
The BPF’s Sustainable Manufacturing book will be available from Wednesday 10th November 2010. To download your copy please visit www.sustainablemanufactuing.co.uk
