BPFs Response to the Kings Speech July 2024

The BPFs Director General Philip Law stated:

“This is a hugely ambitious legislative programme. Lets hope that the resources will be there in government and the civil service to deliver and lets not forget that there are important issues hanging over from the previous government which still await resolution, the future of chemical recycling, responsibility of legislation covering plastics recyclate in contact with food and the fate of UK REACH. As ever the devil is in the detail, and we have to test the emerging drafts for workability, impact and affordability to firms. We will be particularly watchful on how the sum of these programme affects the competitiveness of the UK plastics industry.

We had encouraging discussions with shadow ministers in the lead up to the election on some of these key areas. We can see elements of these reflected in the kings speech and we look forward to cooperating with government in what we hope will be a new era of partnership between government and industry.”
