Lord of the Rings Tolkien First 1st Edition Set Fellowship Two Tower Return King

  

First edition set of J. Tolkiens masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship of the Ring, 10.

Printing 1961; The Two Towers, 11. Printing 1965; The Return of the King, 11. Published in London by George Allen & Unwin and bound in scarlet cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and Tolkiens fold-out maps of Middle Earth mounted on the rear endpapers. The dustjackets of the first editions are made of high-quality stiff paper, originally a greyish white in the unprinted areas but age-toning to look like antique parchment.

In this set the first two books are typically age-toned. The Return of the King is only just beginning to tone, presumably having spent most of its life on a cool dark bookshelf.

These books were adapted into perhaps the most famous trilogy of movies of the 21. Century to date and are regularly cited as the greatest fictional writings ever in public polls. Ideal as a gift or a great highlight for a collection and also likely to prove a good investment. Dustjackets will be protected in removable cellophane when delivered. This protection is present in the photos of the three books together, but removed for the individual photos of the spread-out dustjackets.

Will be posted in bubblewrap and cardboard layers to preserve their condition. A very good plus book in an about very good dustjacket. Clean, bright intact pages looking hardly read: I saw just one page corner crease.

Small bookshop label on front pastedown and tiny pencil mark on rear pastedown. Original map still in place. The dustjacket has small chips at the head and tail of the spine, but is not price-clipped.

There are short tears (few cm) running up the bottom end of the folds, but they have been tacked back together with an invisible amount of glue so that they are now hard to see. Printing 1965, NOT ex-library, A very good plus book in an about very good dustjacket. Clean, bright intact pages looking hardly read. A few pages have a very faint brownish spot in their extreme lower outer corner (shown in photo between Moria gate and family trees). The dustjacket has tiny chips at some corners, but is not price-clipped.

There are short tears (few cm) running up or down some of the folds, but they have been tacked back together with an invisible amount of glue so that they are now hard to see. The flaps appear to have been very slightly trimmed back down their long edges, but this does not affect the text and is hard to notice. The Return of the King, 11. The book is in about very good condition and the jacket is very good plus. It is complete and intact with its original fold-out map of Gondor, Rohan and Mordor in place and the pages are clean, bright, uncreased and looking hardly read.

There are tape marks to the boards matching tape mark on the inner edges of the flaps of the dustjacket and the bookplate of a possible perpetrator of the taping on the front endpaper. The dustjacket is complete and intact and not price-clipped and virtually unworn even at the corners.
