A vintage 60-year-old first edition set of J. The Fellowship of the Ring, 10.

Printing 1961; The Two Towers, 7. Printing 1960; The Return of the King, 7. Published in London by George Allen & Unwin and bound in scarlet cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and Tolkiens fold-out red and black maps of Middle-earth mounted on the rear endpapers. Jacket designs and all illustrations are by the author.

These books were adapted into perhaps the most famous trilogy of movies of the 21. Century to date and are regularly cited as the greatest fictional writings ever in public polls.

The continuing interest in Tolkiens works is exemplified by Amazons new series in preparation set in Tolkiens Middle-earth in its Second Age. Jackets are mildly age-toned in the white areas and the spines to look like antique parchment, which Tolkien must have intended since he left these areas unprinted i.

Did not use white ink. Will be posted in bubblewrap and cardboard layers to preserve their condition. Dustjackets will be protected in removable clear cellophane when delivered. There is a longer tear of about 8cm running up from the bottom edge of the front panel through the E of TOLKIEN.

This was formerly mended from the rear with Sellotape, but this is long-since gone leaving a tape mark to the rear and just nudging around the lower edge of the front. The overlapping edges of the tear have now been reconnected with adhesive, so that the mended tear is not very prominent. The jacket is not price-clipped and the book itself has clean boards and looks little read. The Two Towers, a very good plus book in a very good jacket and NOT ex-library.
