Meet the Toolmakers
On the 21st October the Gauge and Tool Makers Association (GTMA) and the British Plastics Federation (BPF) in conjunction with the British Industrial Designers Association (BIDA) co-ordinated the inaugural ‘Meet the Toolmakers Event’ at the GTMA Manufacturing Resource Centre in Alcester. The event was exclusively open to the members of the two associations and gave an opportunity for the BPF’s moulders to meet with and discuss future prospects with the toolmakers from the GTMA. The event attracted around 25 moulders and 14 toolmakers and proved to be highly successful with moulders coming along to discuss projects and understand more about the capabilities of the tool makers.
“The event attracted a cross section of processors from our moulding and packaging groups who have in recent years been expressing a very keen desire to source more toolmakers from the UK. They have expressed concerns to us about the outsourcing of tools to overseas markets, specifically that of China. Concerns have been raised about quality, lead times and also rising costs from tools previously brought in from overseas. This event gave them an excellent opportunity to meet with toolmakers from across the UK and the feedback from the moulders was highly positive" said Stephen Hunt, Membership Services Director of the British Plastics Federation.
