Roundtable Breakfast Meeting With Sarah Jones

The British Plastics Federation last week had a positive roundtable breakfast meeting with Sarah Jones MP, Shadow Minister for Industry and Decarbonisation. The meeting was an opportunity to introduce the Shadow Minister to the UK plastics industry - which has over 155,000 employees, a turnover of over £25bn, and is one of the top ten UK exporting sectors – and outline the BPF’s six key policy requests. The BPF highlighted these policy requests which focus on: Packaging Reforms, Chemical Recycling, Recycling Infrastructure, Skills, Trade and Energy.

The Shadow Minister thanked the BPF for the briefing and indicated she would discuss many of the points raised internally with colleagues – including the role of SME’s in UK manufacturing and industry’s need for certainty and stability in policy making. She added that

“plastics is a cross cutting foundation industry that we need to make sure we have a plan for”.

The BPF looks forward to working further Sarah Jones’ office in the coming weeks.
