BPF Annual Review 2025: Membership Services

Growing the Federation

During 2025, the BPF welcomed 41 new member companies, representing nine different groups across the Federation. This continued growth reflects the value members place on the BPF’s ability to connect, support, and represent the plastics industry at every stage of the supply chain.

Network, Network, Network

Members consistently tell us that one of the key benefits of BPF membership is our unique ability to bring together the entire plastics supply chain through high-quality networking events.

For more than 90 years, the BPF Annual Dinner has been the premier networking event for the sector and it continues to go from strength to strength. The event sells out every year, attracting more than 500 guests for an evening of networking, discussion, and entertainment. The Annual Dinner remains one of the most important opportunities for the industry to come together, exchange ideas, and build lasting relationships.

BPF Members Day

Following the success of its launch, the BPF Meetings Day returned for a second year in 2025 and is now firmly established in the Federation calendar.

The 2025 event attracted more than 200 members and featured nine group meetings running simultaneously, culminating in a plenary session bringing all attendees together for wider industry discussion and collaboration.

PRAS 2026

PRAS 2026Continuing the focus on networking and collaboration, the BPF launched a brand-new industry event: PRAS 2026 (Plastics, Recycling and Sustainability).  The event will take place on the 9th July 2026 at the University of Sheffield.

Designed to bring together experts from across the recycling and sustainability sectors, PRAS will feature more than 20 speakers and provide a free, one-day platform for discussion, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

At the time of writing (April 2026), more than 200 delegates had already registered to attend, alongside 10 tabletop exhibitors, highlighting the strong appetite within the industry for collaborative sustainability-focused events.

Taking the Industry’s Message to Government

Alongside the Annual Dinner, the BPF Parliamentary Reception continues to grow in scale and influence year on year.

Thanks to the strong support of members, the event has significantly increased its political impact. In 2025, the reception welcomed more than 100 industry representatives alongside 18 MPs, peers, and parliamentary researchers, including a keynote speech from Lord Harrington.

With the 2024 General Election bringing 335 new MPs to Westminster, the BPF intensified its engagement activity throughout the year to ensure the plastics industry’s voice continued to be heard at the highest levels of government.

During the year, the BPF:

  • Held more than 25 meetings with MPs
  • Helped arrange 10 member site visits for parliamentarians
  • Hosted a Parliamentary Reception in Holyrood, Edinburgh
  • Organised a roundtable for Manchester MPs
  • Held a further parliamentary roundtable in Tamworth hosted by Summit Systems

These activities ensured that policymakers had direct access to the realities, opportunities, and challenges facing the UK plastics sector.

Award-Winning Training

In November 2025, the BPF received the Best Training & Development Programme award at the Plastics Industry Awards for its Operation Clean Sweep training course.

The award recognised the programme’s practical impact in helping businesses reduce pellet loss and improve environmental performance across the supply chain.

At the time of writing, the course had been completed by more than 570 individuals across over 30 countries.

Operation Clean Sweep has long been a major focus for the BPF. In fact, the BPF became the first country outside the United States to adopt the scheme back in 2008.

If you have not yet signed up to Operation Clean Sweep, we strongly encourage you to do so HERE. The free training course is also available online.

Advice and Guidance

From 2026, packaging that is more difficult to recycle will incur higher fees under the Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR) regime.

Large producers are now required to assess the recyclability of all household and commonly street-binned packaging using the government’s Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM).

Following feedback from members, the BPF developed a free, member-exclusive RAM Tool to help plastics manufacturers, processors, and suppliers carry out consistent, government-aligned recyclability assessments.

The tool simplifies recyclability assessments using a clear traffic-light system:

  • Red – difficult to recycle
  • Amber – moderately recyclable
  • Green – easily recyclable

This practical approach helps businesses better understand environmental impacts while supporting smarter packaging design and decision-making.
