MEPs Call for Ban on BPA from all Food Contact Materials (FCMs)
Friday, 7 October 2016
Following a meeting of MEPs at the European Parliament for a vote on a report regarding implementation of FCM Regulation, they have called for a blanket ban on BPA in all FCMs.
A report produced on the implementation of European FCM Regulations was produced by Christel Schaldermose, Rapporteur of the European Parliament's Environement Committee (ENVI). The European Commission (EC) had already reduced the migration limit of BPA from FCMs earlier this year, however MEPs voted in favour of an amendment that would see its use in certain consumer goods heavily restricted. The European Food Standards Authority (EFSA) has also noted it will reassess BPA's hazards in the next two years.
