Net Zero for Plastic Processors: A Practical Guide to Delivering Net Zero
To help plastic processors on their journey to Net Zero, the BPF has produced a Net Zero for Plastic Processors guide. Written by Dr Robin Kent, the guide covers the essential actions that processors need to take to reach Net Zero.
At the processor level, there is a need to understand what net zero really means at the practical level, i.e., “what do I do today to start achieving net zero?”.
This publication is designed as a guide for plastics processors to start the process of decarbonisation.
To give a background to the action required, the book covers the essential actions that processors will need to take to get to net zero. These are:
- Become ‘carbon neutral’
- Reduce energy use
- Use renewable energy sources
- Reduce absolute materials use
- Reduce climate impact of raw materials
- Use recycled materials
- Use bio-based materials
- Reduce gas use
- Reduce transport impacts
- Minimise waste
- Reduce supply chain emissions
Whilst this publication is directed specifically at net zero, we should never lose sight of the fact that net zero is a subset of the overall sustainability agenda.
Many of the topics dealt with here are also covered in more detail in a separate and larger BPF publication dealing with sustainability entitled "Sustainability Management in Plastics Processing: Strategies, Targets, Techniques and Tools".
