New chairman for the BPF IHSC

At the end of September 2015, Mike Jones, of Ditrupol, relinquished his position as Chairman of the Health & Safety Group and Alan Brown of Amaray was elected as the new chairman of the Committee.

Alan is a Mechanical Engineer with almost 30 years’ experience as area and operation manager with a particular focus on implementation of health and safety. Alan was already a valued member of the IHSC and he is committed to lead the group to another level, among his objectives for next year he has the preparation of a training video for injection moulder safety guarding, a collaboration with the HSE Labs for slips trips and falls and, last but not least, evaluate the possibility of creating a BPF SIMPL Group.

The IHSC is very active, it meets 3 to 4 times per year and it also organises an annual H&S Seminar.

The BPF Industrial Health and Safety Central Committee meets regularly and closely monitors H&S issues for the industry. The output of this committee is communicated through regular seminars and the BPF's Health and Safety Newsletter. 

The Committee has launched, October 14th 2010, SIMPL (Safety In Manufacturing PLastics) is an initiative developed to reduce the incidence of accidents and ill-health in the UK Plastics Industry. SIMPL has been developed by the British Plastics Federation in partnership with fellow industry trade associations

The new cycle of the SIMPL initiative will run over three years from 2014 to 2017, bringing together all parts of the industry in a bid to stimulate progress on on accident and ill-health reduction across the board.
