New Climate Change Agreement-Sector Target Proposed by DECC

ImageDECC have proposed 2020 targets for the new sector agreements coming into effect 1 April 2013, and for the plastics sector this has been proposed at 17%.

This 17% improvement in energy efficiency is measured from the base year 2008 and was communicated to CCA partners earlier in the month and has now been endorsed by SFC and Council.

At last week’s Council meeting held at the Bank of England it was considered that the 17% improvement proposed by DECC was an informed target and reflected the BPF efforts in getting across the key challenges facing the sector.

The metric of kWh/kg output used to measure energy improvement will be hampered by various commitments facing the plastics industry during this period such as packaging targets, light-weighting and recycling, ‘this target goes some way in recognising this said Peter Davis, Director General of the BPF’.
