Packaging Trends focus of February 17th BPF seminar

The British Plastics Federation’s ‘Trends in Plastics Packaging’ seminar to be held on 17th February 2011 in Rotherham will examine the current market position of plastics packaging in the UK and explore key trends and future innovations shaping the UK’s packaging industry.

Philip Law, Public and Industrial Affairs Executive at the BPF said, “The UK Plastics Packaging industry is a world class leader in innovation, is a national economic strength and has helped to develop the UK’s highly sophisticated distribution and retailing systems”.

“We will explore the key challenges of demographic growth, the increased pressure on packed commodities including foodstuffs, and the expectations of responsible use of resources including increased recycling and the investigation of bio based materials.”

The importance of the seminar is highlighted by the stark fact that plastics now represent 41% of global packaging’s market value and this is set to grow further as customers convert from alternative materials.

Expert speakers will provide their own separate perspectives on the future. Among key contributors PIRA will explore significant trends in the global marketplace; Plastics Information Europe (PIE) will discuss raw material supply and availability; the KTN will review the future of Smart packaging; RPC will explain the rise of portion packaging; and Cedo will showcase successful applications of plastics recyclate.  From a customer perspective the Co-operative will investigate the trade-off between reducing packaging’s environmental impact, 'fitness for purpose' and cost effectiveness.
