Plastics industry to launch major campaign in UK

LONDON: The three main plastics industry bodies are to launch a major campaign this summer aimed at engaging ministers, MPs, opinion formers and the general public in a wide-ranging debate on plastics and waste management issues.

The British Plastics Federation, PlasticsEurope and the Packaging and Films Association are sponsoring the campaign, which will facilitate an open exchange of views on the environmental challenges facing the UK over the next decade.

It is believed to be the first time an industry has sponsored such an ambitious and inclusive debate aimed at reaching consensus on issues such as recycling, energy recovery, and waste and resource efficiency.

The campaign, which will officially be unveiled to MPs in early July, will commission exclusive research from pollsters ComRes which will present new findings on key environmental issues.

The campaign will sponsor an open website to provide a balanced and comprehensive  view about plastics, enabling society to make informed decisions related to plastics.

Peter Davis OBE, Director General of the British Plastics Federation said: “We are delighted to be launching this unique and innovative campaign, which we hope will help contribute to a better understanding of plastics and what happens after we have used products and put them in the bin; and also encourage a big debate across a wide range of people with different views and perspectives.”
