The British Pavilion

It was the second time the BPF led a group of exhibitors from UK at this event and this time there were seven participating companies under the GREAT Britain banner:

•    Akcros Chemicals Ltd
•    British Plastics Federation
•    EPI (Europe) Ltd
•    Fraser Anti-Static Techniques Ltd
•    J & A Young (Leicester) Ltd JAYPLAS
•    Meech International
•    Wells Plastics

The UK exhibitors were supported by UKTI grants of £2,500 which covered the cost of a booth making the show very cost effective. More information on the British exhibitors can be found at www.british-pavilion.com or in the British Group Guide found HERE

"It was the first time we have visited Vietnam, but we realised that there is shortage of material in the market and we wanted to explore the opportunities first hand. Jayplas, as one of the leading UK plastics recycling sites can deliver the best quality recycled material and over the three days of the show, we have received a good number of business enquiries making the trip very successful". Jason Young, Director, J & A Young (Leicester) t/a Jayplas

At the second night of the show, the British exhibitors met with the Executive Director of the British Business Group Vietnam (BBGV), Mr Wai-Kit Ho and his colleague An Lieu Doan who represent the equivalent to British Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam. The BBGV works with UKTI to support UK Business on the ground and their services include arranging B2B meetings, sourcing local agents and distributors and writing tailor-made reports on the locat market. The British exhibitors were able to learn more about the opportunities and ways to access the market whilst having a dinner at the roof terrace of the group hotel - Hotel Majestic Saigon.

Most of the exhibitors stayed in the group recommended hotel – the Majestic Saigon, which is a grand French-colonial building located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh overlooking the Saigon River.

Kelly Han, Regional Sales Manager for ASEAN said: "PR Vietnam gave us a good platform for brand building in a country with high concern form environmental issues.  Having a local and dedicated support team, we assisted some existing and new customers who visited Wells’ booth with the appropriate procedures and testing in order to comply to the regulations setforth".

Representing over 500 Members – the BPF stand

The BPF stand at foreign trade fairs always gets a very good number of visitors and is used to distribute the BPF Industry Directory which was translated into Vietnamese and included contact details and proedcut information on all BPF Members.

The Member companies are promoted via a listing in the members directory which is distributed at the trade show. The comprehensive brochure first lists the UK exhibitors at the show and then all BPF members with their company specification.

During the three days at Plastics and Rubber Vietnam the BPF gathered nearly one hundred enquiries including some strong potential leads for the BPF members.

These are available for download in Excel format by BPF Members HERE.

Plastics Industry in Vietnam

The plastics manufacturing industry is one of the countries fastest developing industries with an average growth rate of 20% per annum over the last ten years.

The plastics industry is one of the top ten industries prioritised by the Vietnamese Government’s development plan due to the "proven record of the plastics industry stable growth and strong performance in increasing the country’s export".

According to Vietnam Plastics Association (VPA) the annual plastics consumption in Vietnam is approximately 48 kg per person compared to the Europe’s over 120kg per person. Currently, most of the raw materials needed to fulfill the domestic production are imported accounting for as much as 80 to 90 per cent of the material used.

Most enterprises are located in South of Vietnam wiith Ho Chi Min City and the southern provinces contributing to 83% of the total plastics production. Hanoi and the Northern provinces account for 13% and the central region covers the remaining 4%.

Out of these plastics companies the largest percentage of production covers consumer products 40%, packaging 35%, Technical 14% and Construction 11%.

An area which the Vietnamese Government has puts a lot of emphasis in the recent years is recycling.  With a number of directives and guidance introduced in order to raise awareness and increase recycling. According to the Waste Recycling Fund and the VPA there are around 274 small recyclers in Ho Chi Minh City and 11 recycling businesses located in the Industrial Zone. Each year Ho Chi Minh hosts a Recycling Festival, an important community event which aims to improve the public awareness and encourage increase in the recycling practices. The 3Rs  in Vietnamese are called 3Ts for  “Tiết giảm” (Reduce), “Tái sử dụng” (Reuse), “Tái chế” (Recycle).
