Product Lifecycle Webinar Series

Sustainability in plastics processing is increasingly important and the industry needs to understand the complete lifecycle of products. To help with this, the PCN and the BPF have joined forces to present a series of ‘Lunch and Learn’ webinars: the Product Lifecycle Webinar Series.
Presented by expert consultants from all sectors of the industry, the webinar series will cover all aspects of the life of a product under the general topics of: raw materials, manufacturing, use, end-of-life and managing the product life. The complete series will provide the industry with the essential knowledge needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
Each 45-minute webinar is free for BPF members and will focus on a specific topic, presented by acknowledged industry experts in each specific area.
The series has now moved to the manafacuring and use stages - the first of which covers topics such as:
• Energy management
• Water management
• Quality control and assurance in plastic pipes
Join us for the latest insights from world experts and learn how to effectively manage the entire life of your products.

Energy Management with Dr Robin Kent ~ 12.00 - 13.00 Energy management is rapidly becoming a core business issue for plastics processors but many companies do not know where to start. In fact, many of them start in exactly the wrong place, i.e., lighting. Energy management is actually a simple process provided you follow some simple rules and look for the big savings first. It is really about cost management and is the 'last great unexplored frontier of cost management'. Join us for this webinar as Dr Robin Kent describes the basics of energy management and introduces 35 proven techniques and technologies to reduce energy use and cost. This webinar is presented by Dr Robin Kent of Tangram Technology Ltd. |

Water Management with Dr Robin Kent ~ 12.00 - 13.00 Free for BPF members only - part of the Product Lifecycle series [Manufacturing phase] Water is a hugely undervalued resource but without water, we could not operate a plastics processing site. Many people do not realise that water not only costs money when it comes into your site but also costs money when it leaves your site. Despite this, many sites waste water and increase their discharge costs because it is not seen as a priority or too difficult. Join us for this webinar as Dr Robin Kent takes you through a programme to reduce water use by up to 50% using a proven water management programme and simple techniques. This webinar is presented by Dr Robin Kent of Tangram Technology Ltd. |

Essential Properties for Packaging with Peter Cox ~ 12.00 - 13.00 The webinar will provide information for both flexible and rigid films as used for packaging applications ranging from pallet wrapping, lidding applications and pouches used in the areas of food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics. The physical properties required will be presented and an overview of their means of manufacture will be given. Presented by Peter Cox of Peter Cox Associates Dr Cox has been involved in polymer properties, polymer processing and equipment for over 40 years which includes time spent at Imperial College on the experimental study of melting in screw extruders and time at Metal Box R&D where he was in a team which worked on a unique packaging product. At Metal Box he became familiar with many of the physical and material properties required to pass packaging standards. He is now an independent consultant specialising in the machinery to produce multilayer structures. He has provided courses on multilayer structures for Smithers Rapra and had given talks on sustainablilty. He is a Chartered Engineer, a member of the SPE and is an active member of the Plastics Consultancy Network. |
