PVC Industry To Help London 2012 Olympic Games

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) welcomes today's (Friday 1st May) announcement that PVC will make a significant contribution to the sustainability of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The UK PVC Industry is very much looking forward to working with the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to enable them to reach their sustainability objectives.

The UK PVC industry has a strong track record in several aspects of sustainability exemplified by its achievements in the progressive, EU-wide, Vinyl 2010 programme to continuously improve manufacturing standards and recycling rates. This commitment is recognised by the Vinyl 2010 partnership with the UN Sustainable Development Programme.

BPF Public and Industrial Affairs Director says: ' We welcome this challenge from London 2012 and the opportunity to demonstrate that temporary uses of PVC can be re-used or recycled after use. This is a clear signal that PVC is a leading candidate for use in iconic buildings and structures on the Olympic Park and that the sustainability benefits of PVC can potentially be showcased for the world to see'.
