Mireia Boada, Project Manager, Plastics Recyclers Europe
Mireia Boada is a project manager at Plastics Recyclers Europe. Mireia specialises in plastics recycling, especially food contact, traceability of recycled plastics and standardisation activities. Mireia is involved in the development and maintenance of the certification systems EuCertPlast (plastics recycling traceability) and RecyClass Recycled Content Traceability Certification (recycled content for products). Mireia is a biologist and has a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability by the UAB, Barcelona. Mireia is bilingual in Catalan and Spanish and she is fluent in English.

Tim Chandler, Senior Policy Adviser - Food Contact Materials, Food Policy Division, Food Standards Agency
Tim currently works as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Food Standards Agency in London. Tim joined the Food Contact Material policy team within the Chemical Safety Policy Unit in September 2017. He joined the Food Standards Agency in 2010, and previously held roles within foodborne disease control policy and chemical risk assessment. His academic qualifications include a BSc (hons) in Biochemistry with Medical Biosciences and an MSc in Environmental Technology.

Jonathon Durnford, Vice President, Sealed Air
Jonathon Durnford is a Vice President at Sealed Air & has global responsibility for Strategic Sustainability. He has worked at Sealed Air for 29 years across the Americas, Asia, Australasia, Europe & Africa in various roles from finance, supply chain, sales & marketing to manufacturing & general management. Most recently he was responsible for the Sealed Air Food business in EMEA.

Jonathon’s education includes an MA from St Andrews University, MBA from City University & the Queen’s Commission from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. For many years he has been highly active in Sealed Air’s sustainability programs & is now entirely focused on this crucial subject.

Abdulaziz Ehtaiba, Pricing Specialist, S&P Global
Abdulaziz Ehtaiba is a pricing specialist within the petrochemicals team at S&P Global Platts, responsible for the propylene and polypropylene markets. Prior to joining Platts, Abdulaziz studied Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University and spent two years working in the supply-chain space at a Associated British Foods.

Jens Kathmann, Secretary General, Styrenics Circular Solutions
Jens Kathmann is Secretary General, Styrenics Circular Solutions, since October 2018.  Previously, he served as Vice President Standard Products EMEA for INEOS Styrolution with over 30 years of experience in the chemical industry, including BASF, in several managerial assignments in Asia and Europe. Jens studied Applied Sciences at the University of Mannheim/Ludwigshafen.

Professor Edward Kosier, Managing Director, Nextek
Edward Kosior  ( FSPE, FIOMMM, FRSA) has been active as an innovator in polymer technology for the past 35 years both within universities and recycling enterprises. He is an Honorary Professor at Brunel University UK and Fellow of The Society of Plastics Engineers; The Institute of Materials, Metal and Mining; Royal society of the Arts. He recently received the Prince Philip Medal for “ Polymers in the service of man”

His specialisations are advanced recycling plastics technologies including food grade from post consumer plastics such as PET, HDPE and PP, mixed plastics recycling, minimizing carbon footprint of packaging; bioplastics packaging; reducing plastics in the oceans, and waste plastics to fuel technology. 

Brian Lodge, Design Manager, Berry Global
I have worked in product and packaging design all of my career with spells at manufacturers, fillers, consultants and brand owners in the UK, mainland Europe and Africa. My current role at Berry is to lead the group design department with designers and engineers working on a wide variety of projects utilising all of the major plastics manufacturing techniques across all of Berry CPI’s divisions. The major focus of my work is on design for the circular economy and developing a new generation of more sustainable packaging. Additionally I represent Berry with several organisations including the BPF, RecyClass, CPA, AEPW, INCPEN, Recoup, PCEP and OPRL.

Andrew Osborne-Smith, Special Projects Adviser, Faerch
Andrew originally graduated as a chemist before becoming an army officer for 5 years. He studied as an MBA at Edinburgh University and has worked in manufacturing for 30yrs – 20 yrs in plastic. He was MD of Anson Packaging (Manufacturer and designer of Rigid Food Packaging) which was sold to Faerch in 2015. He became CEO for
the UK Region for Faerch. He now works part time as a specialist advisor to Faerch on the UK market / recycling

Martin Policar – Advocacy and Regulatory Affairs Manager, European Plastics Converters
Martin graduated in European Public Administration and European Politics at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and University of Leiden. Worked for four years at ERM in environmental and health & safety compliance and due diligence auditing of industrial companies. Since 2016, he is focused on food contact material legislation and manages the Food Contact Regulatory Expert Panel within the EuPC association. He manages the Building & Construction Division of EuPC and the sector group of European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders.

Barry Turner, British Plastics Federation
Barry has had a varied industrial career initially with the telecoms industry (BT), then Ford Motor company and Vickers .But for the majority of his career he has held senior appointments including  as a mainboard director of a UK public quoted packaging company and as a mainboard director of and part owner of venture capital backed packaging companies. 

Barry has also being chairman and CEO of trade bodies representing the packaging industry and just over a year ago he merged the membership of PAFA ( the Packaging and Films Association) with the packaging members of the BPF( British Plastics Federation) and became the director responsible for that group.

Barry lives in North Yorkshire. 

Klaus Wittstock, BASF
Klaus is the Head of Industry Advocacy and Environmental Policy within the BASF Group. Based on their long expertise in environmental issues management, he and his team work on standards, legislation and ecolabels; they help to position BASF on circular economy, resource efficiency, air, water, and chemicals’ policies and with their networks, they help to protect competitiveness of BASF production and products with a focus on plastics. He represents BASF in several groups within the European (Plastics) Industry and is chairing some environmental groups in several trade associations as PlasticsEurope, PlasticsEurope Germany, BKV, VCI (Federation of the German Chemical Industry) and BDI (Federation of German Industry).

In 1996 Klaus joined BASF as a process development engineer in the field of plastics production. In 2001 he worked as the BASF plastics recycling and sustainability expert. 2007 he became Team Leader Plastics and the Environment and in 2012 he was appointed as Head of the Plastics Affairs Group. Since 2014, Klaus has been the Head of Industry Advocacy and Environmental Policy and since 2020 he is the Head of Industry Affairs. Klaus Wittstock studied chemical engineering in Karlsruhe, Germany, and obtained his PhD in 1996.
