One of the British Pavilion Participants Ken Braney, Managing Director of Plastics Machinery Group International Ltd commented 'We were very impressed with PLASTPOL.  Never ever visiting before and not sure what to expect, we had a large number of visitors both interested in our products and wanting to work with us in the market.  We left with a strong enquiry list and a number of opportunities to join up with companies to develop the market.  The BPF were an integral part of our success story with support on planning, exhibition organising and employing the interpreter'

Throughout the exhibition, the BPF recorded the enquiries from the visitors who came to BPF boots and collected business leads for its Member companies. These leads, as all from the events BPF takes part in, will be available for the Members hoping to increase their sales and to present the type of enquiries the BPF received.

Stephen Hunt, Business Development Manager the British Plastics Federation said:
"The BPF have been organising British Pavilions at Plastpol since 2004 and the show never ceases to impress.  Even though the show takes place every year it always draws a large crowd and is the perfect way to access not just the Polish market but also all major countries from across Central and Eastern Europe.

Whilst the show does not attract the massive crowds that shows such as NPE, 'K', Chinaplas or Plastindia attract, the size of the show is actually manageable for the visitors meaning any serious visitor is likely to find what they are looking for amongst the exhibitors.  The companies exhibiting in the British Pavilion all reported that they all had left the show with a far greater understanding of the market and having met the key players that they had set out to meet."

Polish plastics industry

The plastics industry in Poland consists of more than 8,000 manufacturers and employs around 130,000 people. Most of each are small and medium size enterprises. As quoted by Plastics Review (September 2013 issue), Poland is the sixth largest plastics market in Europe with the per capita usage of thermoplastics larger than France and the United Kingdom. Poland represents almost 40% of the total central european consumption calculated without the Ukraine according to Central European Plastics Price Index (www.myceppi.com).

Polymer demand in Poland is increaseing year on year with the consumption of thermoplastics in 2012 recorded just below 3,000 k tonnes as indicated in graph below.

Raw material import levels in 2013 were recorded at  2.8 mln tonnes and the export levels were 1.5 mln tonnes which leaves a lot of potential to material suppliers. According to PlasticsEurope in 2013 the Polish polymer industry benefits from healthy levels of production of white goods, packaging and increasing levels of construction products. The packaging sector represents around 31% followed by construction at 28% and automotive 7% in terms of the polymer usage.

The next edition of Plastpol is scheduled for May 2015 again to be held in Kielce. For more information on Plastpol and UK Pavilion visit www.bpfevents.co.uk
