Seize the Training Opportunity, Urges BPF
Thursday, 10 July 2014
BPF has strongly welcomed the news of a £32.6 million cash injection into Skills and Training in the UK's science - based industries and urges companies in the plastics industry to lose no time in accessing it.
The news of the funding , a 'Science Industry Partnership', to be administered by Cogent, marks the culmination of months of effort by the BPF, alongside a wider industry grouping, to secure a stronger influence over the skills agenda.
Philip Watkins, who last year was appointed to the Cogent Board as BPF's representative said:
'This is a really important development for the plastics industry. The biggest funded strand in the Partnership is about Apprenticeships - with 1,360 places available over 2 years. It offers employers tailored Apprenticeship Training Plans which are designed around the actual job rather than the qualification - and can include in-house training. Traineeships can also be accessed'
BPF's Director General , Philip Law, added: ' There's really no time to lose. This funding is available on a first come, first served basis. Interested plastics companies should contact Cogent quickly to open a Science Industry Partnership account. Otherwise we run the risk of other industry sectors snapping up available funds.
