SME's Granted Access to Digital Apprenticeship Service

The Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) was originally introduced in 2017. This purpose built online portal is intended to aid employers with searching for training providers, recruiting apprentices, managing their levy and accessing apprenticeship funding. The only drawback to the system was that it was only accessible to employers who contributed to the levy and subsequently must exceed a £3 million turnover.

What does this mean to the plastics industry?

During January 2020, the Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) became available for non-levy payers. As this was a trail, the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) has requested feedback of those who have signed up and used the system.

The plastics industry is composed of approximately 97% small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), hence the significance of this change. The main benefit of this access is that non-levy paying companies will now have greater information available to them than previously. Furthermore, they will be able to access levy funds which have been paid but not used (held as general funds by the NAS).
